Hide your collection at your mistress's place so your wife doesn't get them and sell them to a pawn shop
What if you don't have a mistress? Should I get one? Is this new fool proof way for me to hide my coins? Too blasted complicated..........LOL
Life's complicated enough Jeff, save the thought of budgeting for such an adventure........ I'll keep things simple and stick with my partner (in crime?) of 39 years.......
Every time I read a thread like this I get more paranoid and move more coins to the bank. One shortfall of that, you can't see your coins that easily!
My problem with the Banks are the uncertainty surrounding the economy. What happens if it all collapses and you dont get them out in time? Or theres a run on the bank and they shut down and wont let anybody in, then what? .......Or maybe im just too young and paranoid I do have this same dilemma though. I rent my house so a bolted safe wont work, but I do have a nice 80-100 year old antique safe i just recently acquired and am in the process of painting and fixing up before i move it in. Hopefully due to its age, weight, and size, nobody will be able to get it out the door all that easily.
I went fishing for an elderly homeless man in Boston. I wine and dined him, and after a night in the city convinced him to fill out some paperwork and voila! I adopted my very own grandfather! Sadly he passed on six months after we got him, but I had him stuffed and now he sits in a rocker in the living room. Needless to say, I keep my hidden coins in tubes.
I leave all my dansco's out in the open. Just kidding, anything of real value (Silver, rare stuff, etc.) is kept in my SDB and I have like, bags of wheats or older jeffersons laying around lol. Oh and bags of Ikes once in a while, but those usually get moved pretty quickly through my system.
Remember the desk in Sanford & Son with the secret drawer that only opened when Fred hit it three times in the right places? I wonder if a carpenter could pull off something like that.
Even if she's not a thief won't know that. Unless she's home then I hope you equipped her with a P29.
Its old and hefty thats for sure. I am 6'5" tall and a solid 240ish (I used to weigh closer to 340 about 3 years ago), used to play football both in high school and college so i like to think of myself as a strapping young lad with some 'umph' behind me......well lets just say it took everything i had to wiggle that thing out of its corner it was found in to about 10 feet away where I could work on it....that took me about 10-15 mins just for that. It would take at least 3 strong men to lift it and try to move it anywhere, maybe 4 if you had to move it in a hurry. Methinks only a professional thief like out of 'Italian Job' or someone like that would be able to move it quickly and quietly and god help them if im home. I exercise my right to bear arms
I'd say that safe should be sufficient. Unless a thief is organized, he/they will probably leave it alone.
I'd much rather hide my stuff than lock it up in something like an old dorm fridge. For example, one of my old hiding spots that I used in the past: An old 30mm ammo can in the garage. I had a smaller ammo can filled with valuables nested in the bottom of the larger can, and tire chains piled on top of it. If someone tried to lift the ammo can, they'd feel it was very heavy. If they opened it, they'd probably assume the whole box was filled with tire chains. If they were looking for valuable stuff to steal, they'd probably run away from an ammo can full of rusty old tire chains. Or, hide it in plain sight: My grandpa used to have a chunk of silver that he "accumulated" when he used to work at a silver mine in Nevada. This thing was probably 20-30 lbs and he used it as a door stop out in his shop. I remember seeing it when I was a kid, but it wasn't until a few years ago that I learned it was silver. It just looked like a big blob of scrap metal to me.
