I have no earthly idea, but that is some hippy free love acid toning right there. I guess PCGS thinks that it is market acceptable.
Sorry...what's the problem? A colorful Morgan? There are thousands out there, all NT. I can show you ten that are just as extreme. Lance.
Who mentioned any problems ? Yes, colorful Morgan <roger>, and agree. As showing us 10 more like it... giddy-up !!, let's see em'. This one is definitely unique and I have never seen another with a pattern similar. I think you'd be challanged to show us 10 more as unique as this one. Looks like a nicely toned morgan with a satelite mapping of a river delta superimposed on it.... .. very cool and unique. Any thoughts regarding how it toned ? (bag, roll, album, etc.?)
from the pattern of the toning I would probably say was from being stored in one of those old sulfer laden mint bags. Album toning usualy seems to be more on the edges and enders (roll ends) usualy have that edge ring from the roll itself. this pattern makes me think of condensation dripping onto the obverse while the reverse was sitting flat on another coin or bottom of the bag. Really just a guess but I think that is the best your gonna get on this
A $60 coin....I don't care how "trippy" the LSD colors are, I'd say a big "no thanks" for the $1190 premium. JMO.
This coin was the subject of a similar thread on the NGC forums recently. While the toning is interesting and attractive, I don't think it conforms to the standards for what is considered "market acceptable" for Morgan Dollars and am strongly in the camp that believes that it would likely end up in a genuine holder upon resubmission. I think it is worth a premium, but at the $1,200 price tag, I believe that the new owner is buried and destined to lose money when they sell. This is also not a coin that I would like to purchase based solely upon a photo. The appearance of that type of toning can look very different in hand and the originality of the toning is much easier to ascertain in hand as well. And Lance, if you can show us ten more that look like that, go ahead. I have never seen any Morgan that looks like that. PS: I was a loyal Anaconda customer and know all about strangely toned Morgans with high price tags.
That coin is textile toning, and not all that unusual. Gimee a break about Details slab-search Ebay and there are tons of slabbed Morgans that look just like that, and are legitimate NT. THe only thing out of line is the price. Prime example in 30 seconds of searching:
Baha, I am a little surprised you would ask this question. Considering you made it clear that you feel if a TPG feels it's "market acceptable" and they put it into a slab, then it doesn't matter if it's AT or NT.
