This isn't your typical question but I have a inquiry and if this question has been asked before please route me to the correct thread. My company is holding a 1 million coin drive with the proceeds going towards equipment for a local NICU. Anyone can donate pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters and will be completed when we reach 1 million coins (not dollars). My job is to find a clear container to showcase all of these coins. What I was wondering from you experts is how big of container would I need? I know there are a lot of variables but with some lengthy internet research I would guesstimate 44% pennies, 9% nickels, 14% dimes, 33% quarters. I know the quarters estimate is probably high but the container is better too big than too small. These coins will be dumped in randomly - not stacked. I'm thinking the container needs to be around 20 cubic feet - 2ft tall x 2ft wide x 5ft tall. The approximate weight of the coins would be between 4-5 tons. These are all guesstimates. I would hate to have this thing built and be 200000 coins capacity too small. Questions?
Welcome to CoinTalk . Not sure exactly about the specs but it appears to me by the photos I have here from others that have done similar things it would be closer to 3' high & about 4' wide & 5'-'6 long. That seems safe size wise to me.
Bedford, I'm aware there are others that done this with pennies. The attached picture is from a Jewish Community Center in FL but once again those are all pennies. Since nickels and quarters are larger in size I'm wondering if I would need a bigger box?
