Is it normal to have nickel weigh 5.22?? What would be the reason?

5 grams is the listed weight. I think the .22 is within the tolerance.

Just slightly out of tolerance. Tolerance is .194 grams so yours is about .02 grams heavy.

Conder, I knew I was close, but I couldn't find where the tolerances are actually listed. Where did you find that?

Coin World Almanac, my go to reference for a great many things. I normally use the 1990 edition. The 2000 edition is not very good but I think the most recent edition is probably OK. I've been getting copies (and back up copies) of every edition since they first came out back in 1976. (Most of the content is duplicated in each one from the 1976 to the 1990 edition but each one also contains some information that is not in the others so I find all of them useful.)
