What happened to my Franklin half?

Discussion in 'Coin Chat' started by TopcatCoin, Dec 4, 2012.

  1. I won a 1963 NGC MS65 Franklin half on Teletrade recently. I bid because it looked like it had an unattributed DDR. The last pic below is the auction pic. Notice the apparent doubling on the motto. Well, I received my coin and there is no doubling...not even machine doubling. The first and second picture are mine. The cert #'s match. Is this lighting/photography? Thanks, TC

I see the doubling in the Teletrade photos but not in TC's. Maybe the Teletrade picture taker had the shakes or the lighting was off?

It's no doubt the same coin, I think you just got fooled by the different lighting and what not in the auction photos. I'd imagine if it was a DDR, it wouldn't have slipped past so many or NGC in it's graded slab.

This is what many people see when they post their 1997 DDO? type of threads. Some post machine doubling, but I have seen a lot with photos where the light is giving an apparent doubling look on the coin, but it wasn't even machine doubling.

I will say it is the lighting/luster on the coin doing this to your eyes.

  7. Enlarge the last photo and look closely the motto. Looks like serious separation in the E for sure. TC

That was the first thing I did. Sorry, but I don't see anything that remotely looks like doubling, of any kind.

  9. Ok, I need to stop drinking when looking at coins. :) TC
