I tought I'v had see a lot of stupid thing on E-bay but this takes it. http://cgi.ebay.com/Rarest-US-Penny-in-the-world_W0QQitemZ220029858386QQihZ012QQcategoryZ39457QQreZ1QQcmdZViewItem I hope I got this right on the URL this time, but if not this guy is trying to sell a 1943 cent for $100,000.00 just because it is missing the "4" in the date, and he call the mint and the mint told him they know nothing about it.
the auction i saw for a tenth anniversary tickle me elmo going for 10 million dollars (with a reserve) was worse than this. but still qualifies for "moron seller".
Andy21us,that does definitely take the cake. There's a lot of morons who sell online. We even have our fair share of them over here in New Zealand. Aidan.
well with those who dont know any better, they're just ignorant not fools. the fool is the person who does know better and then buys it anyway. as they say, a fool and his money are soon parted.
With the Internet and many other resources at our fingertips, I don't accept the "ignorance" point of view. Pre-1995, yes I would have accepted it. Not now, there is no excuse for anyone failing to do their research.
Good thing I asked about it here first, or I might have tried to sell mine for $100,000. Here's another one, trying to sell a counterstamped 1974 for $10,000: http://cgi.ebay.com/1974-ULTRA-RARE-MACHINE-MARKED-NE-LINCOLN-PENNY_W0QQitemZ140034370180QQihZ004QQcategoryZ31373QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Outrageous!! Not even 1 bid on it!! (where's my checkbook...?) Hey, don't these guys have to pay humongous seller's fees for this sort of listing? Why do people do this? Do they like giving their money to ebay? I guess that's it.

question I was wondering if it was also common for other numbers such as the 3 to be missing or not complete?
Any part of the legends or design can fall victim to grease filled die problems; they are just more noticeable when they completely obscure one or more numbers and/or letters.
