Hi, Ive come across a coin and am wondering what it is worth. Its an Eisenhower Dollar, 1971, and its from the very first day made. It has 2 8 cent stamps and a seal that says : Denver Nov 1 A M 19/1 The stamps say: "United states in space... " With picture of the first spaceship in space. The second says: "A decade of Achievment " With a picture of a rover with an asternout on it. Any help would be appreciated.
Post a photo of it if you can! Without seeing a photo the coin could be worth $1-$3....if its a first day issue...and it doesn't sound like it...it might be worth a few more dollars. Speedy
Eh I lost my cable for my camera. Its a genuine first day issue stamped by the denver mint with stamps and all, has to be worth more than a few dollars lol.
Well do you have a way to scan it?...you see the reason I ask is that alot of these "first day" things are made up by people outside the mint and sold as the real deal.... I ran a search on ebay and can't find a listing---if it is a real deal first day then I would put value at a few dollars more... Maybe someone that has one of these or has seen one sold can help. Speedy
That was my problem I couldnt find anything anywhere about this unique set. I had someone at work tell me it was at least 50$.
Could be---but I would also guess that the person at work is not a collector.... I have 3 First Day Issue for State Quarters----and they are worth under $25...many just around $10. While I don't know of a Ike Dollar one I'm still searching and if I find some info I'll be sure to post it. Speedy
So far I can't find anything that states that the US Mint made any First Day Issues for the Ike Dollar in 1971....of course I could be over looking something and I'll keep looking unless someone else post with the info needed. Speedy
Well, according to the sixth paragraph of this article, 11/1 was the first day of issue for the Ike dollars. The description sounds good for a first day display, which might have been created by the Mint, the Post Office, or a third party. If the "seal" with the date and location is in Postal Service Purple ink, my money would be on the Post Office; otherwise on a private party.
1435b stamps Does the stamps look like this. If it does then you have a USPS issued 1435b which the first day cover price is only $2.00 and it all depends what the coin grades out it might be worth 5 to 8 dollars.
Good going Roy---I couldn't find anything that even said when they released them....I guess I should look on that site more! The mint wouldn't know a thing----a dealer might know something so you could try. Sorry we couldn't bring better news--- Speedy
