Hi all, Here is a fun coin. A 1964D class II (distorted) doubled die, that also has machine doubling on it as well. To make it easy, I have indicated the areas affected by machine doubling with red arrows. Notice how the doubling is flat and shelf-like. The black arrows point to the actual doubled die. Notice how the doubled part is rounded, and has notching on certain parts of the letters. I hope this helps people that are just starting out understand the characteristics of certain forms of doubling, so that it is easier to identify coins in the future. Enjoy! SS
The tricky part of this is that class II doubling and machine doubling look very similar, so attribution can be difficult.
a excelent explanation/example. If I can add one of the other CT members posted this pic originaly and it has been a big help to me.
