its killing me but i cant seem to find anywhere why the **** the 1951 coin is worth more than the 38 49 50 and 52 ? :S
It's really pretty simple. Silver coins have invariably been collected for thousands of years and most of the high mintage copper nickel coins made since WWII have not been saved. There are very few collectors for the modern coins but many are quite scarce. I can't keep up with where Krause hides this country any longer. It's it really that high priced?
NGC value it at $5 in VF But from what I read Krause say about $40 :S even the difference in price with NGC gets me although its not too much of a price difference I struggle to find a reason why there is a difference atall.. I mean there was even an issue After it which is the same price.. The XF value is $2.50 less than the '51 I guess there isn't many left in this date maybe alot were melted ?
I was trying to look this up in Krause. The listing for Rhodesia and Nyasaland starts in 1955 and Rhodesia in 1964. It says to refer to Southern Rhodesia for earlier coinage. The 3 pence for 1951 in Southern Rhodesia has a mintage of 5.6 million and value of 40 cents in fine, $5 in VF. Is this the one you're talking about? I see that for a lot of Southern Rhodesia coins there's a significant jump in price between VF and XF. Most coins must have been somewhat worn.
Yeah that's the one alot of con-artists on eBay then referring to Krause saying 40 dollars when they are only VF ! I have wondered for a while why the 1951 and 52 were worth more despite higher mintages, I guess they were not bothered About recalling them and they got heavily worn as you say
Rhodesian coins are very difficult to get in high grades. $50 in XF is probably reasonable - good luck with the set.
