Bought this set today, 36 coins including large cent coins, 1932-s Au55, ms66 1936 dime. What would you pay for this lot? Seen FB and FBL on some of the labels, what does that mean?
Merc= Full lines (bands) Franklin= Full Bell lines. I have to ask, if you don;'t know this, how could you establish a price? That is, without getting ripped off.
Mercury Dimes FB = Full Bands (see below) Not Full Bands (see below) Any breaks (for any reason) in the line that separates the center bands will preclude a FB designation.
Unless noted, coins are graded by ICG Large Cent 1819 VF30 Large Date 1855 PCGS VF35 Nickels 1954 SEGS PR68 Dimes 1936 MS66 1938-S MS66 FB 1940-D MS64 1940-S MS65 Quarters 1932-S AU55 1934-D AU58 1936-D EF45 Half Dollars 1949 MS64 FBL 1952 MS65 1954 MS64 1955 MS64 FBL 1956 MS64 FBL 1957 AU58 1962 MS64 1998-S Matte Finish MS66 Dollars 1881 MS64 1881-S MS64 VAM-1A ANACS 1889 MS65 1896 MS64 1896-O AU50 ANACS 1897-S MS63 1899-O MS64 1901-O MS64 1902-O MS65 1904-O MS65 Peace 1922 MS65 1924 MS64 1926 MS63 1935 MS61 3- 1996 Silver Eagles 1-2007 W- Matte burnished finish I believe.
This is just a friendly suggestion, but you might want to hold off on buying for a while and use the time to educate yourself. This is not to say you got a bad deal on the listed coins (without knowing what you paid, I cannot say either way), but jumping in head first is very risky for newbies. These designations are very common, so I can only assume that your experience is low. Making an investment in yourself (learning, buying books, etc) will pay off in the long run... trust me on this. I would rather not say what I would pay, at least until/unless you disclose how much you did.
I'll check the actual prices, but seeing $55 per coin and ICG, I just assume you got ripped off. ICG is notorious for overgrading.
I'm somewhat lazy, so I'm going to do this the easy way, so you can do your own research... Large Cent 1819 VF30 Large Date - treat as VF25. 1855 PCGS VF35 - make note of knob ear. Nickels 1954 SEGS PR68 - treat as raw. SEGS = "self-employed grading service" or "self-evaluation grading system". Dimes 1936 MS66 - treat as MS64 1938-S MS66 FB - treat as MS65 without FB designation. If FB is confirmed, treat as MS64FB 1940-D MS64 - treat as MS62 1940-S MS65 - treat as MS63 Quarters 1932-S AU55 - treat as AU53 1934-D AU58 - treat as AU55 1936-D EF45 - treat as EF40 Half Dollars 1949 MS64 FBL - treat as MS63. If FBL confirmed, treat as MS62FB. 1952 MS65 - treat as MS63. 1954 MS64 - treat as MS62. 1955 MS64 FBL - see above. 1956 MS64 FBL - see above. 1957 AU58 - treat as AU55. 1962 MS64 - treat as MS62. 1998-S Matte Finish MS66 - treat as MS63. Dollars 1881 MS64 - treat as UNC details. 1881-S MS64 VAM-1A ANACS - treat as UNC details. 1889 MS65 - treat as UNC details. 1896 MS64 - treat as UNC details. 1896-O AU50 ANACS - treat as EF45 or AU details. 1897-S MS63 - treat as UNC details. 1899-O MS64 - treat as UNC details. 1901-O MS64 - treat as UNC details. 1902-O MS65 - treat as UNC details. 1904-O MS65 - treat as UNC details. Peace 1922 MS65 - treat as UNC details. 1924 MS64 - treat as UNC details. 1926 MS63 - treat as UNC details. 1935 MS61 - treat as UNC/AU details. 3- 1996 Silver Eagles - probably one worth $50-$60 (good luster) other two look like folks might treat them as bullion. 1-2007 W- Matte burnished finish I believe - You can easily verify this on your own.
I would say AU55/58. Are the scratches on the back on the coin or the holder. If on the coin, I'd say AU details.
Just on the holder. I'm going to be selling most of them so I can keep a few for myself to add to my collection. Book estimate for this lot in the grades stated was roughly $3345, at $2000 I figured there was enough room to sell some and keep some. I guess we'll find out here when I list them.
If book value is $3345 (I assume Yeoman Red Book?) for the SEGS/ICG grades, you're definitely going to lose money.
Rather than showing the AU, show the 1949 half and the 1936 dime. Those are the coins where the grade matters to value. AU50/AU53/AU55/AU58 aren't going to be a huge chunk of the value in this lot.
