The images are small, but it appears to me that this might be a 1944-D Lincoln cent that has had the first 4 altered to a 1. Might you take closer images of the date and of the obverse rim (the area between Lincoln's coat and the rim) beneath Lincoln?

Here are some more. I understand your concern about it being a mutilated 1944 d but if you compare the 4's on the 14 and 44 they are different.

I am still hesitant to speculate based on these pics. Check out the picks in other threads and see how close up they are.

Crop tighter. Try to show only the coin with very little background.

In over 50 years of seeing 14-D's & 1944-D's, this one is altered. TOO>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> much space between the 19 & 14

Thx 4 the input all. Not sure if I should send it to confirm whether its real or altered.

I am far from an expert on Lincoln Cents and even I can tell that that coin is a 1944.
See http://www.cointalk.com/t104999/ for an image of a genuine 1914D

It's an altered 44-D cent. I could tell without seeing the date. The 40's era cents look a lot different from those made in the teens.

In the future, CROP your pictures down to just the coin. You're showing use more background than coin.

Thx BadThad. I'm using the IPAD 3 to take these photos. Really no guru with it. Will try next time.
