Isn't that seller also known to buy problem coins in properly labels holders and sell the coin cracked out not noting the problem?
Well, looks like he may have came through with the hype... he just posted an MS69 Morgan Dollar for sale: http://www.ebay.com/itm/121030777433 I have seen the coin in hand and it is stunning. Never seen a cheek that clean and frosty on a non-proof Morgan. Much more beautiful in hand than his photos and videos capture and I agree that the coin is deserving of the PL designation. Edited to add one of the videos, looks nice in HD!!!
Nice coin. Looks like he has a lot on nice stuff on his site. Didn't know he was still in the business.
And plenty of "hype" also... here's his "blurb" for that special coin: "Coming SOON to Quality Rare Coins of eBay in less than THREE DAYS will be a Coin that is Sure to Rock the Coin Collecting World as a Whole. I believe this will be a Coin that's going to go down in History as being a truly ONE OF A KIND piece, no doubt about it. I will guarantee right now that this will be the First of its kind on eBay!"
Not really sure if that was directed towards me or not. I'll reply anyway. I was here during the infamous BNB era, and have to admit it was very entertaining. I have met him, as many others in SoCal have, personally think he is a nice guy. It may take him a lifetime to live down his rep, and I'm not condoning any shady dealings or things he may have said or done in the past (yes I have seen and heard about most of it here and on other venues). And I am not going to try and convince the populous that he is different(not really my place to say) Does it really make that coin in the picture any less nice because who owns it?
Was aimed at the person who sent me a message through eBay messages this morning referencing my comment above. Some of us have memories that even date back to before the internet.
Ah yes, I vaguely remember those days, getting my first TV(black and white), listening to music on a large vinyl disc, talking to people face to face, and playing outside no less.
If I remember correctly, sort of. He listed it as such, but got shamed and hassled so much he actually pulled it.
You are probably correct. Here is the thread on CT where he bought it. http://www.cointalk.com/t84116/
Dealers do that all of the time when they disagree with a grade. That wasn't the major issue some had with what he did. Jarett relisted the coin after cracking it out and in the title of the auction he called the coin "Gem." To most collectors that have been around awhile, the word "Gem" is synonymous with uncirculated, or more specifically the grade of MS65. So he took a lot of heat for cracking out an AU58 coin and selling it as an MS65. I too live in SoCal and see him around all of the time at shows and shops. I've also had conversations with him about that 3-legger incident. Remember, at that time he was a rookie in the coin business. He claims (and I believe him) that he was just using the word "gem" in the title as an adjective to describe it as being a nice coin (which it was). The same way that others would call a coin PQ. He insists that he didn't realize that saying "gem" would be equal to saying "MS65" to many in the business. Makes sense that a rookie in the business might not know that. Others disagreed with his reasons for cracking the coin in the first place, to attempt to remove a faint fingerprint on the coin after NCS already failed to do so to his liking. Again, at this time he was working at a local coin shop who taught him various conservation techniques (some more market acceptable than others) and figured he could work the same magic on his 3-legger to get rid of that print. Well it didn't work out as he planned and maybe he got a little more aggressive with the "conservation" than some others would have done. Again, seems like a rookie mistake. The 3-legger didn't get pulled, it was sold via auction on eBay. It's real easy to beat up on him and many seem to have a little too much fun with it. Especially since everyone knows he's banned and can't really defend himself. Don't get me wrong, I definitely don't give him a pass for all of his actions on and off of the forums, but it's clear he has grown quite a bit in this business over the past few years and has dealt with some very impressive coins. Give the guy a break, that MS69 Morgan Dollar is awesome. I saw it in hand and it's even better than his photos/videos and I agree that it deserves a PL designation.
The coin is worth $16-19K retail & that's all that matters really. The seller is asking about $58K too much for me to spend any more time even thinking of the hype they have put into it. Good luck to him, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.
It worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it... http://stacksbowers.com/auctions/AuctionLot.aspx?LotID=401551 16-19k, a little low considering it sold a couple weeks ago for 22+k. Its a very nice coin, but way out of my league for sure Erik
Buyers preimums are about 15% so about $3K less of $22K is $19K. Its all relative to the person. But ,yes you are correct it is worth whatever someone will pay for it & that is what the new seller is banking on .
