If given a choice of one or the other, which would you prefer to collect, the Mercury dime or Barber dime?
Again, there is something about the Barber halves that do it for me...not so much for the quarter or dime. I vote Merc in this one!
I voted Barber here, much to my own surprise. I like the Mercury design better, but there's such a rich range of values and availabilities in this particular Barber series -- it's an interesting challenge.
Oddly enough, the very first coins I was ever given for my collection were two Barber dimes, a 1903 and a 1910 - the birth years of my grandparents - and given to me by my grandmother when I was 7. And for my entire life those 2 coins remained the only two "Barbers" in my collection because even as a child I considered the Barbers to be about the ugliest coins I had ever seen. That has never changed.
