Hello Everyone, I have a 1990 D penny that seems to have a bit of an error. First off, The letter U in the word TRUST seems to be misshaped or something. 2nd and 3rd is the a few of the letters in the word TRUST seem to have some type of double stamp error at the top of the letters. Here are the pictures, Check it out! I am new to this so I don't know any of the terminology or anything like that. All I know from personal observation is that this coin looks like it has errors.

Maybe a grease filled die and/or PMD.

I don't see how it could be PMD with 3 distinct markings above more than one letter.

You came here for opinions, right? Well, that's what you're getting - just don't expect them to always be what you want to hear.

I too think the coin was post-mint damaged and circulated for some time.

    And :welcome: to CT

No I cant get closer pics without them being blurry. If you hover your mouse over the picture and dont click it a bigger picture will pop up and you will be able to see it much better.

I once asked about those marks just above the lettering and was told it was either MD or Die deterioration, its actually quite common especially when roll searching. I am no expert though but im sure one will chime in and let you know more than you wanted to.

I think I detect signs of die wear which causes a mushiness or fade out effect along the edge.

This is a mix of plating issues and die deterioration...more the latter than the former. A completely normal coin. Keep up the hunt!

From the Coneca Glossary at http://conecaonline.org/content/glossary.html

You'll see it a lot on the early 90s (and late 80s) Lincolns. It's like they hadn't gotten the system down yet with the switch to copper coated zinc.

That would be that groove going around the rim correct? I have seen this quite a bit and wondered what it was from.
