I just picked up my household limit; why not??? The mint knows that OCD and packaging are in the same ballpark, can't blame them for that really. Wish it would ship before Christmas though, so I could gift one to my kid-brother! Erik
looks like they are selling some quickly, the ship date has already changed from 12/28 to 1/4... I just checked my order and is still says backordered with an expected ship date of 12/28. Erik
A Denver minted ASE that would sell like crazy maybe some one will put a bug in thier ear. I will pass on this set
Or: American Silver Eagle 1 Oz .999 Fine Silver* Limited Collectors' Edition with China Mint Mark *May or may not contain actual silver
Heck if they made a true purely silver set, where the nickel, penny, president/native American dollar were all in 90% silver too, then I'd actually think this was worth it. Heck something like that I'd maybe even go a little more than this for. As it is it's a bunch of coins I already have in packaging that's more expensive than getting exactly the same things separately. (A silver proof set + a proof ASE will cost you less than this, and that actually gets you MORE coins!). So um, no, definitely passing on this. I'd submit that if someone pays a premium on coin sets not because of the coins they contain but how they are packaged, they've stepped out of the realm of coin collecting and into the realm of fancy box collecting. Not that there's anything wrong with that I suppose lol... collect what you like, and at coin shows interesting packaging has led to some of my impulse purchases, but for me at least there's a limit, and this goes beyond that. At some point paying a premium for a repackaging of the same coins gets a little silly. I'd say this is beyond that point by far.
Same old stuff with different, bigger packaging. Im to a point where Im not going to get excited about every goofy scheme the mint comes up with just because its the latest (not so greatest) release of a random set with huge markup. Theyre taking advantage of the hype over silver. Im going to call a spade a spade here. That set has all the appeal of a plain, luke warm, McDs hamburger after youve just finished a Thanksgiving meal. For $150 Id go for a ms-66 Merc or a capped bust half over this set any day. If 2012 doesnt have some significance to the average collector, whats the selling point here? Why not just get the regular silver proof set? Yet another rare ASE? This is becoming too gimmicky. This is profit driven. Sent from my Motorola Electrify using Tapatalk 2
I'll probably get one set ...... so that shipping will be upgraded to UPS since I need to order the Denali Puck anyway ;-) plus, it's a nice company to the uncirculated set I got earlier ..... So, no Christmas presents to anyone
I just can't justify spending another 150.00 for coins I already have minus the W ASE. This might be a low mintage set since many already have these coins. It really irritates me the mint does this. It's nothing but buying multiples of the same coins but with different packaging. It seems to me they are adding the cost of the W ASE, the 5 quarter silver set and the dime and Kennedy and selling it. UGH.
I get it guys, this set is not very popular... But, does anyone know why the heck they keep changing the ship date on this set? I'm semi-new in buying direct from the US mint, and the 2-coin ASE SF set sold 250,000+ sets and only had 3 separate ship dates (and they supposedly had to mint to demand on that set). Well, this 2012 proof set has changed ship dates about 6 times now and all the coins in the set have already been minted??? Any help on this one??? Erik
The only reason why they would keep changing the shipping date would be because they're getting more orders than expected. Apparently this set is more popular than anticipated. Guess the 'public' likes the cute fluffy packaging,,,,,,,,,
Oh, but I am listening. I've been following this thread, too. This thread just makes that inner voice scream louder. I'm still tempted, but that temptation gets weaker by the day. Now, if...I...can...just...hold...out.
