Check out this link.... http://cgi.ebay.com/1926-s-PCGS-F15...QQihZ012QQcategoryZ139808QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Sure does look like the coin has been cleaned pretty badly.....maybe its the holder making the coin look funny but I've seen alot better looking F's... Speedy
I don't think so...that is what happens with adjusting contrast or doing a "Auto-Fix" in Photoshop, in lieu of taking a picture through a slab.
I think the coin has 20 details, but was graded a 15 as it has an "acceptable" amount of cleaning based on current market standards. Just my guess. The coin looks like it was graded a while ago though, so I can't really say.
pcgs typically body bags harshly cleaned coins. Depending on the coin, and the grade, some level of cleaning is acceptable based on market conditions. As far as forgiving cleaning for certain submitters, that would never happen, as graders never ever know who's coins they are grading, except in a rare instance where it is an ultra rare coin and the owners are well known in the numismatic community.
well I don't know Zane if I would grade that a 20 or not---that date doesn't seem that clear?....I have a 1926-S Buff that I'm going to be sending to NGC soon---I think it will come back either 20 or 25....and I have my eye on another one that should also upgrade from a PCGS holder. I'll send you a link.... Speedy
