What do you guys think is up with this nickel?
    -just honest wear
    -weak strike
    -strike through or some error

What do you think the grade may be? au?

The top of the dome on the reverse looks fine - I thought that was the high point.

    Thanks for any input

It has some toning but it has good eye appeal. I'd go AU-50 with it.

You could hardly see anything in the area of the steps and their background - meanwhile the rest of the coin looks like it has zero wear.

It may go to a higher AU grade. What is going on with Jefferson's hair? Is it a bad reflection or some scuffing?

Looks like a strike issue to me...

Not sure - several areas have this weird look under intense light that you really can't see with natural light, even under a loop.

Layer of PVC. Try an acetone bath.

Can you weigh it? Maybe not enough metal / small planchet.

Nah, don't have a good scale. One I had broke a few months ago. But that area is not the highest area of the coin, the area above it is, which looks fine.
