A cashier at work found this 1976D penny in a roll today. It's the same color as a dime. Anybody know anything about it? I'm thinking it was some bicentennial promotion. I don't know.
Perhaps a high school science project? I think I recall having to do something like that--decades before the turn of the century.
I agree with Thad, you can still see brown copper color here and there. I think it's just toned, not plated.
