Time to ask who is planning on attending. The show has been moved to the Macomb County Community College campus. Go here for an info sheet from MSNS.......... http://www.michigancoinclub.org/flyerfall12.pdf
Well I've been planning to attend, but considering I'm currently sitting in a hospital room (instead of behind the desk checking people into the hospital) it is currently a little questionable as to whether I will make it or not.
I agree. I hope you recover soon. I hope to attend the MSNS this year; I've never been due to travel out of state the last few Thanksgiving weekends. I am still trying to figure out what to focus on with so much coinage present! any advice for a first time attendee vis-a-vis people to talk to, times to attend, dealers to get to know, etc. ?
Of course it depends on what your focus on collecting is. But with over 180 dealers supposed to be there I'm sure you can find something to drool over. LOL I'll have a name badge that says PennyGuy so if you see me introduce yourself.
Well it looks like I may get out tomorrow, but they don't seem to think that it would be a good idea to be doing any long distance travel so it looks like I'm not going to make it to MSNS this year.
I was there today. Lots of variety, really cool exhibits. I picked up a few bullion pieces as that is my interest, but none of the Michigan shows ever have too many bullion dealers. There was only one gentleman with a good bullion selection and it's the same guy who is at every Michigan show.
I was there on Friday and hope to attend tomorrow. Many dealers, but I felt a bit disappointed by what I saw after 12 months of learning ebay. I saw many "steps" Jeffersons that were maybe 3FS or 3.5FS priced at 6FS. I went looking for a high grade flying eagle cents, but the only two I saw we're labeled MS yet had a lot of breast feather wear. Most dealers were busy interacting with regulars on Friday, so I ended up feeling as though I was getting a bit of a cold shoulder. The exhibits were interesting and well done. I suspect there was some parental help involved; I was not given thousands of dollars worth of coins as a kid to exhibit! The one on fashion through coinage was very interesting to me. Do check it out. One dealer had a set of 11 proof trade dollars... All slabbed, about PR63, $38,000. I told him those were lovely coins but he stared at me with a look that told me I'd best move on. That was the one set that really took my breath away. Otherwise it seemed like a lot of the same stuff shown in VFW lodges. Some nice ancient tables though, and one guy had a bunch of large cents laid out... Several hundred I think. I was very impressed at the selection and quality, and was very interested in a good type coin or two, but the prices seemed a bit high (2x) what I was seeing online, greysheet bid, etc. so I backed off to do some research. Nice coins though. everyone was talking about the location, and everyone had an opinion. I am hoping to find a lead on my FE cent. My wife sat with some ladies by the concession stand and apparently was introduced to the former head of the FE cent club even as I was getting frustrated by lack of coins to look at.
The guy with all the Large Cents was Tom Reynolds one of THE Large Cent dealers in the nation. He always seems to have an amazing inventory. If you looked at the Exhibits you might have seem mine, the one on Two Cent Pieces.
