I have been dying to go to a coin show, but cannot find any at all in my area. I have looked over a 200 mile radius and found nothing. They do not seem to be advertised online, or else I would find one in that large of an area. How do you all find out about them? Also I do not have much luck with coin shops either. I have to travel about 40 miles to get to one of those. It's a real bummer when I can't feed my hunger for coins, LOL. I know I could buy online, but it's just not the same as going out and buying and seeing them in person.. Thanks for any help offered!

Thanks for replying, Cazkaboom, but I have tried that site. Those are all Northern VA, or near the coast. I am in SW Virginia, about 40 miles NE of the Tennessee line. I checked the TN and NC sites too with no luck.

I've been through SW Virginia several times back in the 60's & 70's, and it looks like you will just have to do some traveling if you want to go to any decent-sized shows. If you have any coin shops in your area, you might want to ask an owner if there are any coin club-sponsored shows not too far away. Otherwise, you'll just have to go to someplace like Richmond or, possibly, Charleston WV.

I know there are shows periodically in Roanoke, although I've never attended there. But that's quite a long haul for you; heck, EVERYTHING's a long haul from Saltville. (I spent many happy years in Blacksburg, and did some exploring around the area, but I'm not sure I ever made it over there.)

You might try Googling for shows in towns that you can get to -- Bluefield? Johnson City?

Yes, it appears you are not very close to any kind of larger city. It may be harder for you. My advice, if you have to travel a good distance, is to save up and go to a national show if you must make a trip.

If it helps, while I enjoy going to shows like CICF and MOON locally, I still buy most of my coins online. Shows are wonderful to see coins in person, meet people, go to events, etc. but most buying at least amongst my friends and I are done online.

I kind of tack on costs of going to shows as more of an educational expense.

Coin World and Numismatic News both have show calendars in the back of the magazine.
