For many years now, I've been collecting Imperial Chinese cash coins. Well...not actively, but more or less passively. On occasion I've purchased some from reputable sellers on line, some of whom are CoinTalk members. Most though have been bargain bin finds in which I've paid out around $.16 to $.25 a coin. What intrigued me was their almost alien quality (at least to my western eyes) and how little was known about them. Literature on cash coins, which at best was old and scarce, really didn't shed much light on them. What kept me from actively collecting them was that many varieties were not recognized nor catalogued. Then came David Hartill's book, my weapon into the unknown. Now my cash coins have gone from the cigar boxes to the binders. I now have years worth of cash coins to catalogue in front of me, to my future wife's despair.
