Does anyone know how much this 1780 M.THERESIA.D.G. worth?

As you can see lots of details on the reverse is missing, there is no right eagle head and the crown does not have lots of details other strikes have!
I happened to buy a couple of these which seems to be from the same mintage, and they all weigh around 27 grams !
Any information on the value of this coin and the year of mintage is much appreciated !

    Welcome to the neighborhood!

It's possible that it could be the result of a weak strike; it's possible that it could just be circulation wear, and it's also possible that it is a fake since the MT's were counterfeited quite a bit.

Since I don't collect most foreign coins, I hope someone will chime in who might know.

This appears to be a MT restrike that have been restruck for the past 100 years plus. If this is the case which I strongly believe since I own quite a few, the value is $25-$35 dollars.

I have seen a great many of these over here in the UK - and as someone else has pointed out, they have been restriking them constantly. (I heard somewhere that oil workers in the Middle East like to be paid in Bullion Silver and they have been struck to meet that demand.)

All that said, this is the worst restrike I have ever seen! Not only the points you have noted, but also the lettering is crude and mis-shaped. I would suspect a complete fake - have you tested the metal for silver content? (No harm in doing this as they only ever seem to make melt value anyway.)

The Maria Theresia Thalers made by the Austrian Mint these days are dated 1780, and have a diameter of about 4 cm. Actually 39.5 mm. :)

I have just acquired a coin of 1780 M. THERESIA. D.G.. The size of it is rather large. It measured 45 mm in diameter. According to chrisild, the Moderator, it is supposed to be about 40 mm.
Was my coin specially made as a gift when presented to foreign ruler such as ancient Chinese king?[IMG]
