If you have to be a member of the ANA, than that is requiring membership. And not sure why you'd care about "market support" unless you're submitting them for the sake of reselling them. If you just want decent physical protection for your coins and an opinion on their grade, then heck even ICG is good enough.

I've not got the impression that ANACS is thought poorly of by anyone, just less so than PCGS and NGC, but so what (unless you're planning on reselling them. I never sell any of my coins if I can help it anyway. To me that defeats the purpose of collecting coins!)

This should go without saying, but whether you're buying or selling a coin, the coin should stand on its own merits, not the opinion of a TPG. If all TPGs disappeared tomorrow in my opinion the hobby as a whole would be a lot better off, but maybe that's just me. Even the TPGs would be forced to admit the exist for the sake of coin investing, not coin collecting, and as such they're not really in the business of serving the hobby. I almost never buy slabbed coins if I can help it; the only time I do is if it's a coin that is faked often enough to make it worth paying for authentication rather than grading. I have my own set of eyes and can decide for myself whether a given coin is worth paying for or not.
