Need help with coin capsules

you mean to say the capsule sizes from the u.s.mint can fit into airtite holders. say am. eagle silver dollars, modern commem dollars & half dollars, am eagle gold and platinum - all sizes.?.

Elaine, I've just learned of these, AirTite Tubes eBay link. Not sure who makes them nor what type of plastic they are made of: Tube-Tites

 

I'm here to ask dumb questions, so, fulfilling my purpose in life:

If a coin rattles around inside a plastic holder, is it at risk for getting hairline scratches or other subtle damage? What if it's a soft material like 24K gold?

 

I recently bought some of these tubes and although the plastic is a little thinner and the push on caps are a little tighter than I'd like, they were the only tubes I could find for Air-Tites. Overall they aren't bad.

 

Reviving this because I finally saw the light and got an airtite album. However, as you may know, the mint's holders are NOT the same size as airtite brand. Any idea how to have OGP holders fit in AT album pages? I already began swapping commems from mint holders into airtite ones, and of course doing each one made me cringe...

I still have the American Historic Society album for ASE coins [in capsules]. In case anyone has ever figured out what type or brand of capsule fits the darn thing. Probably most of you never heard of American Historic Society.

 

What about the question above, if rattler holders may scratch a coin, thinking particularly of a modern proof?

 

Oh, very interesting! What if the inside of a holder is flat, such as an airtite or quadrum? (Not saying they ARE flat...might they be?)

 

Would like to know if it is advisable to keep coins in the airtite capsules or take the out and place the in a dansco album with out the capsules. Your help is appreciated .

 

I think the airtite is generally better for long term storage. Dansco albums can impart toning on coins.

It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish. I have Dansco's and coins in airtites. Biggest thing is to store your coins in a dry, cool place, temperature controlled place.
