I am a Podiatrist. I was sharing my interest in coins with one of my patient's spouses. The following week, this fella brought in two coins for me to look at. One is a Confederate 1/10 cent and the other does not fit this forum. It is an error coin. I was in a hurry in my clinic and managed to shoot a couple of pictures, one of which should have been repeated. Please let me know your thoughts on this coin. What is the value? Thanks to all. Howard
Welcome to CoinTalk! I don't know anything about CSA coinage but I would immediately be suspicious about its authenticity based on its details. I'm sure someone else can tell you for sure!
I don't really think it's legit, because I see these at a bunch of local stores being sold as replica tokens...but that's just me.
It is a fantasy piece, and I would not refer to it as a "replica," since there was never anything remotely like this coin to replicate.
It is a fantasy token issued first for civil war centennial in 1965-6. Some say made in several different finishes both white metal and also copper mix. As you might suspect, most were sold in the southern states who historically have large number of people who celebrate the CSA. I have seen a few on ebay occasioally. Tourist souvenir stands were popular fo these tokens and parchment paper CSA bills.
