When these first started, it got me energized back into collecting. Then, finishing my Indian Head Cent set was a MAJOR jolt. Now, I have my Dansco State Quarter albums and plan on finishing the albums the way I started filling them: by pulling coins from circulation. Do any of you casually collect these? If so, how: mint sets, circulation, coin dealer, etc? It's funny when I look at the albums, my 1999-2003 is mostly P mint marks and my 2004-2008 is mostly D mintmarks. I moved from VA to CA since these were released.
Hey vroomer. I casually collect state quarters. I'm working on 3 sets of them. One is completed up to date. I am collecting from circulation and roll searching. My dealer sells them, so it is tempting to get some of the hard to find ones from him. I'm doing well with the rolls though. Also, change machines, like the ones at the car wash seem to be lucky for me. The P mints are the hard ones to find for all the dates around here. Anyway, while I'm on the topic, some of these H.E. Harris albums are a pain in the @$&. Its really hard to get the quarters in, and then they fall out sometimes. Has anyone else noticed this, or does my dealer just have defective ones?
I have Whittman folders fow my washingtons, adaml, and mine never fall out. As for my state quarter book I have a whittman too. Has anyone noticed how the texas quarter does not fit right in any of your albums?.. Pm me to let me know.
Where do you guys get your washington younger dates?.... I go to the bank normally but it takes a very long time.. any suggestions?... pm me mary
I'm near Chicago and collect them casually. We usually see everything here pretty early and get a mixture of both mints but the last few years have been more of the P mints. My whole set is MS-60 or better with a couple that should go MS-65 and only a few that are only MS-60. I'm starting to worry about the MI coin though. This is getting pretty old and I've yet to see an unc Denver. I might have to stick an AU in the slot.
I don't think I've seen a California Quarter, yet. And I JUST got a Colorado quarter. It looks sweet. Then again, I really started looking for them in earnest just this past week. As for Texas not fitting... It was the hardest one to get in the Dansco. =\ Hmmm... I'm going back to VA for Christmas and will do some roll searching. AND I will drop some D mint marks into circulation for you east coasters.
I started collecting state quarter from the beginning by picking up coins from the bank and out of pocket change, but that took a very long time because all I could find were D mint, so I started getting most of my quarters from a company called the Mint State Coins at mintstatecoins.com. They send out the quarters when they are released form the mint. The price is only 2.95 for both the P and D BU Quarters. I have also buy other hard to find Quarters to fill other sets from company on the net like American Precious Metals Exchange. Both companies are very rereliable and I have had no problems getting any coins from them.
I casually collect state quarters out of circulation and put them in Whitman folders. I have two sets going. For me this falls into the category of "cheap entertainment" and will never have much in the way of value. The D mint coins are pretty tough to get around here.
I am also collecting from pocket chage and coin machines. I live in the east and it's difficult to find the Denver issues here. Is there a forum or a place on this board where we are permitted to contact each other for trades? Steve

O.K. About the East & West coast things. There is the Mississippi River that runs between both mints. Wich makes the distribution a little uneven considering general circulation, not counting mail orders. Another thing is People are cleaning the mint out as soon as these puppies cool down off the press to sell on Ebay for profit. I have several hundreds of them that I have been collecting for years. High Grades are prefered. And I tell you whats hard to get. P-Mint = Minnesota, Michigan, Kansas, Nevada & up(not counting W.Virginia, and some semi difficult ones are maine, iowa). Maine being the lowest minted so far...I live in Arkansas and save all of the arkansas ones I can get because they are of lower mintage also. I also have came across severeal bicentenials on my quest. About 15 California moon errors. about 15 W.Virginia cud errors(2 being obvious something was on the mint die). A W.V. 7mm rim cud(as seen on ebay), and several other errors like nevada chimney rock with the same Cali. moon error(3 of them). I have not yet found a wisc. corn error, I also recovered a n.Hampshire gold plated D. quarter from a vending machine(however it's probally only worth about two bucks). I have made about 6 full sets of p's missing a couple in the 6th book. and about 10 D books, and could probally make about 10 to 12 more if I needed to. Again I turn down a lot of them I find due to condition unless they are harder to get. Check Vending, Change, Bank Rolls, and when you go to the store. I even check under the vending machines at my work on a slow night. I have found two 2001 Sac dollars which are lower mintage than the 2000. I plan on keeping some of the books for my family, and reselling some later on in life.
