I have been chatting here and there on this board for about a month now, but never actually introduced myself. My name is Dave I live in the New England area and as a kid I collected coins but just recently started up again about 4 months ago. I collect silver coins and as a kid my father always told me to keep silver quarters, dimes and to also wheat pennies as well. I now decided to start collecting silver coins again and am having a lot of fun doing so and seem to be trading a lot of my sports collectables for coins!

BTW, we have plenty of good coin shows in Connecticut & throughout all of New England. I normally attend the larger shows in NY & MA and about once a week I attend one in CT. Send me a PM sometime & maybe we will meet at a show.

From what I have heard there is a pretty decent one in Nashua NH every third Sunday of the month.

It is the largest coin show in New England. I believe that there is a $6 admission charge. The show Website states that parking is free. The coins are probably not free.

I'd like to put this into a different perspective. I traveled to the ANA show in Philadelphia this last summer. Between the exhibit hall & my hotel, I paid more than $60 just for the darn parking FOR ONE DAY. I am very happy to pay my $6 admission to support the largest coin show in New England.

    Welcome!

I highly second the advice to travel to good shows, especially if you are new. Its amazing to see all of these coins in person.

I actually got my start in ancients at a show. I used to go to local Iowa shows, and even larger ones, but one time my coin club hosted the state show. As such, I spent more time than normal at this show. Normally I just went in, looks at better bust and seated material and left. Since I was forced to spend so much time at this show I actually perused all of the coins for sale. Lo and behold, I found an album that had ancient greek bronzes inside, ones I could actually afford to buy! One look at the Larissa facing head bronze in VF and I was done. I was hooked from then on.

Its funny I quickly stopped collecting greek coins after being lured into ancients by one like the Sirens in the Odyssey, but that is all it took.

Who knows, maybe your lifelong passion is sitting in a dealer cabinet just waiting for you to stop by and find her. Do yourself a favor, go to a large show with an open mind and look at EVERYTHING. Who knows, maybe 18th century russian copper, or 19th century Mexican silver, or even 1800 year old Roman denari is what will stir your soul.

    Have fun!
