Got VERY lucky on Halloween 2012. A teller gave me $93.50 in loose half dollars out of a plastic tub. She counted them all out into piles of $10 looking at each one. There were 2 1967 Kennedy, a 1944 Walking Liberty, 1951, 1952 and 1952-D Franklins, and, best of all, a 1925 Stone Mountain commemorative half dollar! She stopped on each of the old ones to make sure it was a half dollar...then handed all of them to me. Cool! I might go back again some day...

So, after my Halloween success with half dollars, I spent November 1st looking through penny and nickel bank rolls. Found a dateless S mint buffalo nickel and a 1909 VDB wheatie!

If you look with a mag glass, your nickel looks to be a 1920.

    Thanks, 3centcollector. Nice haul yourself!

Congrats CTRollHunter! I search $10,000 worth of halves at a time and have never had a haul that unique.

During Jan and May 2011 I found around 47 ounces of 90 and 40% halves. 3 Walkers out of one box and one box with 23 ounces of 40% 65-70 halves. Unfortunately, the trail dried up months later and I ended up only netting 3 ounces over the next 6 months.

I switched to quarters, dimes, and nickels with marginal luck in the latter two.

    My BEST day ever...

Actually, my best day was July 20th of 2012. I was searching for half dollars with my niece. We stopped at many banks and found only one 40 %er. But then we stopped at one more bank and asked if they had any half dollars. They said yes, that they had $290 worth. I said we would take 6 rolls. We went back to the car and opened the first roll. Nothing. Same with the second roll. But the first coin out of the third roll was a Franklin! Before I could tell my niece how lucky we were, out rolled a second Franklin from the same roll! It just got better. The fourth roll was ALL Franklins and Walkers. So was the fifth and most of the sixth. The best part was we already knew that there were more rolls in the bank! If you are wondering if we went back to get them, OF COURSE WE DID! Here is the total Franklin and Walker haul by date (we also got 29 40% and 4 90% Kennedy halves):
