Hi - I'm new here so go easy on me. I have a registered mail USPS that arrived from Spain on 2/16/10 at ISC center in New York (no updates since). I still have not received it as of today. I have read comments that registered is real slow. Am I being paranoid (you can tell this is the first time i've gotten coins in this manner) or should I just relax a bit longer. Thanks for any feedback.
Relax...it takes time as it is hand delivered from station to station.. You will receive a pink slip and you must sign it to receive it. RickieB
Sometimes the slip they leave at your mailbox if you aren't home gets lost. Many times the package is just sitting at your local post office. If it seems like it is taking too long take the tracking number to the post office and see if they have it.
Hello Arrian, I haven’t been logged into Coin Talk for some time now, so didn’t get a chance to respond to your question back on February 25th. Before I retired from the Postal Service last June, I was the subject matter expert for Registered Mail matters within the Postal Service. The Postal Service was at that time, and still is having a lot of financial problems, so in order to reduce the costs nationally; a decision was made to change the way Registered Mail coming in from foreign countries was handled. Actually, the new procedures lessened the time to expect delivery of Registered Mail from foreign countries; however it also lessened the security of that piece of mail. So if all of the new procedures were in place, it may get to its destination faster, but it may also be misplaced or lost for a short time. Did you ever get that piece delivered?
I hope someone can help me. Someone in Malaga, Spain shipped a package (registered) to me on October 23. For two days the postal site in Spain said "en transito" and then nothing until 27th October when it said "origin post preparing shipment". That is what is it saying when I check on usps.com also. Should it take this long? We are now at 11 days and I can't see that it has left the country yet. I was told it would show up on the USPS site as soon as it got into the country. Of course we just had HUrricane Sandy so Heaven only knows where this registered package could be. I wish she had sent it Express. Mine to her got there in 5 days. I would appreciate any help and reassurance you can give me. Thanks. If it is coming to Pennsylvania, would it enter the country in NY City? Customs at JFK? Do they open every package? I don't care if they open it but if the do not pack it properly, two porcelain dolls could be destroyed. I just cannot believe how long this is taking. I hope someone knows the procedure.
Welcome to CoinTalk! I would guess that Hurricane Sandy has something to do with it. I don't really know, but I assume it takes a long time for a package to get from Spain to the U.S. I hope you get it soon!
I've had a few registered letters - documents only - from Spain over the last couple of years, and they generally take 15-20 days to arrive. Good luck.
Hontonai - thanks for the reply. It makes no sense that I can get a package to Spain in 5 days (The PO said it would take 3 days Express so when it did not arrive until two days later, I got a refund) but their postal system must not be as efficient as ours.
Oh my, that's unreal. Also waiting for a padded envelope from Canada now at 8 days, and one from England, now at 7 days.
I bought a coin from Jakarta in January of this year. Sent registered mail. I received it about two weeks ago mid-October. The individual there already sent a replacement coin around 3 months after the initial order. Now I sent him an e-mail asking to be billed again for another coin. I had a similar problem with a coin from Greece several years ago. International mail is not a problem going, but it seems it can be when coming from.
My main worry is whether or not the box made it to NYC which is where I assume it would go. I don't think it would come to Philly. And, if it is in NY, is it sitting in water? Being registered, I have been told it has to be locked up every step of the way. If this were something I could easily replace, I would not be two upset but it is two porcelain dolls made by a dear friend who now has acute leukemia and won't be making any more dolls, so they cannot be replaced. (Can you tell I don't wait well????)
