I ran down to Phili today to see the ancient Ur acheological works of art, which have fascinated me for decades because they have maybe the only collection of real Sumerian art in North America including excavations from Ur. But what surprised me was, and I could kick myself for not having my camera with me, they have the most complete and perfect collection of Ancient Western Coinage from the Lydian electrum, on through the Roman period This is a must see trip for any coin collector. http://www.penn.museum/sites/greek_world/index.html There is barely an online mention of this...but I'm telling you it is one of the most important collections in the world. Bring a loup with you when you go.
You should go and see the other 500 or so ancient coins there. Get to Phillie and see this exihibit Ruben
I am sorrowed by the website which has searchable links to the coins in their collection certainly including some nice items and perhaps close to a .001% sort-of complete set (anyone who says 'complete set of ancients' does not understand the terms). It is wonderful that their images are on line but these have to be the worst coin photos I have seen online except, perhaps, for some dealers on eBay who were trying to hide something. I assume U of P has no photography department. From the site, it looks like a place to visit. You said that you forgot your camera. Did you see any evidence that they would allow you to use it if you had brought it? Many museums are very anti-photography.
