Got a pair of these today from one of my favorite antique/junk shops. The owner got them in with a bunch of other coins and tokens. I admit right off they probably fake as all **** but they do test out as 14k gold (yes I allowed one to be scratch tested along the edge at a pre-existing scratch) So I don't think i did bad even if they are copies.. definatly not plated and weigh in at about 1.8 grams and about 1/2 inch across. I only paid $10 each for them (as the shop owner had seen the same on e-bay listed at about that to start). What do you guys think?
acid test on a spot on the edge of one that looked like it had already been tested/scraped there. (was a jewlers at the mall lol) I'll be taking them to my only local "coin" dealer later this week for his opinion but i think they just copys from what i have been able to find but good copies in that they appear to be 14k and worth more then i paid out. In the end i just really liked them and figured I couldn't go wrong for a $20
That is very light for even a 14k gold coin considering a copper penny weighs 2.5 grams and a 2.5$ Gold indian should weigh 4.18 grams (roughly being the same size as a penny). do the guess work. still not a bad deal though.
You did well if they are 14k throughout the coin. About 1.05 gram of pure gold in each coin, so 2.1 total. So about $115 dollars worth of gold for $20, well done!
They are without question modern, but if they are truly 14K then the pair are worth about $115 as has already been posted.
