I've been absent from the forums on many occasions these past few weeks due to the fact that I've been doing some work on the summer home. I managed to lay a new floor down in the attic and it completely transforms the area......the wife's got dibs on that for a new sewing/craft room. :) I thought I'd share a few photos of what I think is a very pretty area of NY State and also some pics of some finds from a coin shop and an antiquarian bookseller in the Oneonta area.

First up, some pics of the foliage on the way up to the "City of The Hills".

Next, some of my bookstore finds.

I'm really thrilled to have found Max's pamphlet and I only paid three bucks for it. Looks like old Max was advocating not cleaning coins back at a time when it was considered an accepted practice. :) Some more reasonable finds.....

    And lastly......

The O&W used to run through the town where I have the house and motive power and history of that line is of particular interest to me. Now the coin shop pickups. Nothing elaborate, but I was drawn to these two pieces. I asked the dealer if he had any circulated commems and he pulled out a tray full. Lots of Stone Mountain and Carver/Washingtons along with a few Sesquicentennials of American Independence and Monroe Doctrines, and also some well worn Booker T's. I was commenting to the dealer about the 'blahness' of the Booker T when I came across this little gem. Lustrous and lovely I thought......

And Jhinton got me started on picking up these little baby's........

Great presentation Ken. Thanks for all the pictures and the interesting write up. I like the 1936 issue of Max Mehl's...I always enjoyed looking through his old catalogs for prices of the day and his tidbids of information. I have three in my bookcase, the 1934, 1935 and 1940 issues. If you're interested in adding them to your library send me a p/m. I'll be glad to give them to you with my compliments...I'm kinda thinning out the "herd". Sounds like you can find a good home for them.

Hi Tom, nice ones. Even better, someone from near the City to actually acknowledge that "upstate" means more then driving north to Bedford,Carmel,etc....

Always did amaze me when working in that area that they thought it was Upstate. I always told them they sould try Plattsburg, Watertown...now those are UPSTATE.

Oneonta and surrounding areas in this part of the state we classify as the southern tier... this seems strange to me as well.

    cheers

Thanks Kook, and we're all OK here. I feel truly blessed that the electrics are on as 93% of the island is without power. Paid $8 over melt,......:)

    Fodder for another post.

So very kind of you Bruce.

The areas you refer to, my friend, are known as the 'north country' 'round here........:)

Thanks for the comments everyone. :)
