Well I finally got my 04 complete silver proof set from the mint today. Being new to coin collecting I have wound up with a silver quarter proof expecting the mint later to offer the rest of the set seperate. Then I got the mint set for 04. When I saw the silver proof (rest of the collction) was sold only with another set of quaters I was a bit disappointed. But what the heck I guess I just got 2 sets of 04 silver proof quarters to share with the kids later on.
Don't be too disappointed. I don't know if you know this, but this was the first year that state quarter silver proof set was offered by itself. From 1999-2003 there was a proof set of quarters, a proof set of quarters and 1c-$1 denominations (no $1 in 99' of course), and a silver proof set of quarters and 1c-$1 denominations. Then in 04' there was a proof set of quarters, your normal proof and silver proof sets, and now a separate set of silver proof quarters. Might be worth something. Anybody agree, or do you think the value will go down because of the greater amount of silver proof coins issued this year? I'm curious to see what some of you think.
it seems to me that the separated proof set would only appreciate in value because it might have the box. i originally spazzed because i missed getting the quarter-only set, but now i don't think that i'm missing anything because i have it as part of the 11-coin set.
Looks like the 2004-S quarter set is doing really well in the market. From what I have seen on eBay the going price for this sold out set is around $39.00 no including the S&H. I wish I would have bought more then just 10 sets though. What amazes me though is the price some dealers are getting for breaking up these sets and selling them in rolls. Just saw a roll of silver proof Texas go for over $300.00!!!
Hmmmmm - sounds like a bargain to me. Just do the math. $39 for a set of 5 quarters - that's $7.80 each $300 for a roll of 40 quarters - that's $7.50 each
