Hi all, been lurking around the forum for a while, and finally found a reason to post. I'm fairly new to collecting, and looking for error coins, so I appologize for asking a question some else has already answered. And now to the story. . . After seeing how some of you go to the bank and get change for rolls, i've decided to do the same. Got 10 dollar in pennies, and i was give 20 rolls of 2006-D pennies. Great, not a good chance of finding older cents. but there were a couple of rolls that had a couple of older pennies mixed in. Then i saw this one, and from the naked eye, it just didn't look right. took me a while before i had time to get my macro photography gear, but the pictures are clear. So my next question is, is this a Double die? I've done a quick check for a 1995-D double die, but all I have found are the 1995 doube die/ no mintmark. Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks
It looks to me to be machine doubling. Try this link and look for die markers to tell if this is genuine or not. Click on the die variety search on the left and search for 1995. Happy hunting, Michael
I tried the link, there is no variety of this type posted. so if it is machine doubling, not that great of a premium? or does that mean my coins no real???? I'm interested to know. Thanks for the link, great frame of reference.
It suggests that it's probably machine doubling. From what I know, there is very little (or no) premium for machine doubling.
Shuterlife...your cent looks like a doubled die to me. It could be a CONECA listed DDO-002, check out the listings for 95D. http://www.conecaonline.org/content/lincolndoubleddies19801997.html Larry Nienaber
Speedy...I think you should slow down a bit. Photos can be misleading...it is always easier to attribute a coin in hand, but when I look at the date photo in Shutterlife's post I see a light seperation on the numbers, showing a minor doubled die, IMHO. I think Shutterlife's post may turn out to be a very good learning experience for everyone. Larry Nienaber
Larry I for one am not any way an error expert----and know only alittle about errors. IMHO the photo of the date shows less doubline than the one of the IN GOD WE.....but the doubled part of the coin is flat---it isn't rounded like normal DD's....it is lifeless I guess one could say. Now I would be the first to say I could be wrong---and you are totaly right about photos. But I'm going to stay with machine doubling---maybe Mike can help with this coin. Speedy
Actually there are two. This one is not your coin. This one might be. Read what it says about markers to determine if this is indeed a double die. Good luck, Michael
Its too bad that the date is a less detail, less lighted photo, as it does appear that there is a rounded doubled part, but as someone said, its very hard to tell from photos. The other 2 photos I agree look like machine doubling, but the date is suspicious. Being someone who has used microscopes in my professional life, I know how the angle and the amount of light, and focus can all change the appearances of any object that small. You can make rounded things appear flat and flat things round. True for macro photos as well. IMHO.
Thats for all the input, I've tried to adjust the resoltion of the pictures so they are clearer. hope this helps seeing the pictures better.
1995 double i have a very screw up 1995D penny it has abubbling affect to it also double affect so i ship it out to be certified or not for 8.25 plus shipping it might be worth the time to send it out.takes 5-10 days and you would have it back then you will know for sure.i just sent mine last thursday.good luck
It is a very slight doubling but regarless, it would not bring to much in the way of value. I usually got to about 3 coin shows a month and error coins are getting to be a big thing. Even slight ones like this would bring several dollars. The stupid 95 Double is now up to well over the $100 mark at a coin show last week. I would suggest you just put that one in a 2x2, lable it as a very slight double, save it for the start of an error collection. I just started my 7th box full of them.
Hi all, I have a 1995 penny and the five(5) appears to be touching the nine(9). Has this been heard of?
