I know nothing about Indian Head Cents and took a chance on an online auction for this Indian Head. The picture was scanned and I knew there was some toning to it and it looked to be in pretty good shape, so I bid on it and won it. I think I did ok and according to a pretty knowledgeable person at my coin club meeting tonight said that it "was a tick away from 65". The Tick is a small blemish on her cheek right next to her mouth. Unfortunately my camera skills lack pretty badly, but I would like to know what you would have bid on this auction. I would like to see how far off I was or if I did pretty good. I will post what I paid this weekend. If I grossly over-paid, please don't heckle me too much, my wife already laughed at me enough. Anyway, do the best you can with my picture. Thanks.
You probably did alright on it, especially if you like the coin. If I had bid on the coin, I probably would have gone as high as $40.
My personal take is that it is definitely brown with hints of mint red in the protected areas. There looks to be wear in the high points, cheek, feathers, and reverse on the ribbon to suggest it would fall under the AU-low mint state grade range.
As far as I can tell. You have a nice coin. It seams to have full diamonds in the ribbon, and sharp details.
Thanks for the replies. I am going to hold off on letting you know what I paid, as I have worked out a deal to have Robec take some real pictures for me. I will be sending him this coin along with some others to get pics of. I will have him post the picture here and see if you change your minds on it. It should be a week or so before the pics are posted. Stay tuned.
