Someone posted this coin in the german empire coins are awesome thread and i have a couple of questions about it? Do you think that it is uncirculated and how rare is it....
I have owned one of these in the past... While neat I would assume its pretty common. Looks like it might have just a touch of wear but it's hard to tell without seeing it in hand.
Once again, that is not a coin but a Goetz pattern. Karl Goetz designed and sold many medals (mostly political propaganda pieces) but also made a few coin designs like this one. Then he had them produced - in many cases right at the Munich mint, without any official "order" or "authorization". Guess that, as the actual coins looked quite different, it was OK to have these made ... We have quite a few topics about his pieces; see this one http://www.cointalk.com/t106115/ for example. It is a rather beautiful coin with nice color and a proof like appearance. If the price is rite, I would go for it.
The problem is that i have no idea what an honest price on this coin would be and im kinda feeling like its a slider although i do love the design. Ill come across something of this nature probably in a slab in the future because i have a liking for german empire coins but just dont know enough about them.
I also liked this one listed on ebay but at over $700 its a little out of my budget. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Germany-190...5389055?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item2c63f25d7f
$275 and if you are referring to the thread chrisild posted yours seems to be made of something else not brass.
I would think the white metal piece would be rarer than a brass example... But I'm not sure of the mintages of either of course.
