Many early Isreali coins (25 prutah is my example) have the designation "with pearl" or "without pearl". What does this mean? Not too much of a world coins expert, but I enjoy picking up Isreali coins when I get the chance.
On the left you see a small dot at 6 o'clock on the obverse, on the right there is no dot. This small dot is called "pearl". In some pruta coins the "with pearl" variety is more valuable, in other cases the "without pearl" is considered rare. To know for sure use the catalog.
Hi, when the same Pruta series coin was struck by both the ICI Mint and the MBL Mint (Birmingham) in Great Britain, to the ICI version a small raised dot - also called "pearl" - was added on the reverse, just below the link near the bottom. Joined today, out of 4 posts 3 got the link. Being also the owner of this website, I`d say it is safe to assume this is a promotion effort. Nevertheless, very nice site. Design is kind of from the early 90s, but the information is what matters.
The catalog is 100% informative and 100% non-profit, so trying to promote it won't add even one penny to my bank account. It only sets me back $12/year for registering the domain name plus $12/year for hosting it. It's a catalog, free for all to browse, and I've already put five years of work into it. My only reward is that as many people as possible know of its existence, and if it causes only one non-collector to become a collector of Israeli coins, I'm the happiest person on this earth. Call that promotion? Yeah, kind of... ;-) Outdated? I'm a complete IT moron who decided to build the catalog from scratch, without any outside help. The format is kept simple, in order to facilitate easy browsing and scrolling. My purpose is to keep the online catalog as close as possible to a printed one. Think of the vertical scrolling as turning pages. Mentioning my own website x times out of y postings? Well, if someone asks a question about Israel numismatics, and the information is in the catalog, I'll certainly keep referring to it and the relevant page. Enjoy!
Good work Pinchas BZ, I think there should be a similar site for every country, big sites like numista do not go into details. As a note I think it would be better to add an introduction to the main page instead of the "Enter" Icon.
I intend to keep the Home Page as simple and clean as possible. The index and short introduction is on the next page <Enter> button. A more detailed explanatory page is still under construction. I agree that country-specific sites with much more information than the somewhat superficial general sites are much more useful for the advanced and country-specific collector.
