So how does the better half appreciate the hobby?

Does your wife/significant other love or hate the coin collecting hobby? Do any of them collect coins themselves?

Personally my girlfriend is mutual on the hobby. She isn't really interested in it, but she thinks it's cool I'm a coin collector. I give her coins from time to time so she can have a little collection herself.

She supports me and will even look at coins if I ask, but when it comes down to it, she is into fashion and the latest celebrity happenings.

 

My wife likes the shiny ones and has been know to swipe a few on occasion.

My wife hates to spend money, and if she had any idea how much I was spending on coins she would not be happy. She doesn't really have any hobbies and doesn't really understand the collecting mindset. I'd hoped she would share my interest but she doesn't care about it.

 

It may be funny but it wasn't a joke You weren't around for the thread when she took my MS66 Morgan. I had to buy her a Baby Eagle Proof to get it back. If the coin has any toning on it I am usually safe, she doesn't even like the rainbows, but I basically cannot buy a brilliant proof without it getting snatched.

 

My wife doesn't understand my hobby, nor does she try to. I spend my money on coins and she spends hers on unique jewelry. That way we're both happy.

I agree with you here! I have noticed this same reaction to me and most of my friends spouses as well. Such a fun hobby, Can't understand why you couldn't enjoy some aspect. Women like gold and silver, and so do I. I just like it in coin and bullions forms instead of jewelry.

 

My wife understands the why and how and thinks it's interesting, but doesn't really participate.

And I only really started back up with it recently and had built the vast majority of my collection long before I knew her (in my teens).

 

Considering the number of circulated proofs I've been picking up at the bank, I believe there are many more wives just like yours...

Married for 30 years............

My wife will rely on our son to handle the collection if I am ever out of the picture. She puts-up with my collecting habits because it keeps me out of trouble (her words, not mine).

BTW, she is known to become upset if I take over the kitchen table for too many days. However, she knows not to touch any coins left stored on the table.

 

No partner. No worries. I spend my money on whatever I want. Could not be happier.

 

I got lucky on this one my woman actualy was the one to talk me into starting to collect again so she can't really complain too much about it (cept when i buy pennies) 2 recent events where i got coins of nice value ($200+) for very cheap prices actualy has her strongly in my corner. Now when she learns that I never plan to sell any of them I might be in trouble lol.

My wife actually got me into collecting seriously by giving me some presidential dollars and the Whitman album to go with them when we were dating. I think she regrets it now.

Hi, My wife started coin collecting when she was 8 or 9. She has been working on a set of Proof Three Cent Nickels all PR65 or higher and all either PCGS or NGC graded. She is 3/4 done with this. She also collects large cents and Bust coins.

 

My wife thinks coin collecting is for dorks.
