Getting much, much better. I am thinking MD at this time, but would be willing to check out other pics. If you do post more, keep it close, clear, and can you try and get them from direct overhead?

This is a close call in my opinion. I see what appears to be notches separating the serifs of the original and double. No matter what, I think it's a keeper.

You guys should be able to clearly see the MDD on the last L and O of MONTICELLO, and the N and S of CENTS, for the reverse in his last photo.

Larry, I will defer to your years of experience and expertise. However, I thought the N and S of cents may have been true die doubling.

Larry, or anyone, have you ever seen a coin with MD and true DD.

Sure a doubled die can become damaged during the striking process. Here is an example, a 69D DDR-009 Kennedy Half Dollar...note the MDD near the top of the photo on the A and M of AMERICA.

WOW! That one would have totally fooled me.

Thank you for that example. I think it helped me quite a bit.

I know this thread is a few years old, but What are the odds of finding another 2012d jefferson nickel with the exact same doubling in the exact same places as yours and still be machine doubling? I found this in my change a while ago (few weeks/months maybe?) Maybe someone here knows the end of the story of this post beyond the thread. but here's some pictures of my nickel with the same appearance of doubling on the reverse.
