I sent my first set back as well. I ordered 2 sets. 1 set on the first day of ordering and 1 on the last. The first set that came in had a few scratches, but the cameo on the proof was spotty. It looked like someone sprinkled specks of mirror all over lady liberty. I sent it back with a letter of my dissatisfaction and they refunded the return shipping charges.
Out of curiosity, I'd like to ask...would there not be any replacement sets? My understanding was that the mint would only make the number of sets ordered in a four week period, and that there would not be any replacment sets provided if returned? Only refunds would be provided. And, if they did send replacement sets, wouldn't they consist of returned sets from other customers? Thats not good. Or maybe I'm mistaken in this? Ron
The above posts were correct. They have shipped a replacement. Will they be 'previously viewed' coins? I don't know. Will post here when they arrive. I hope I don't get something worse - heck, even my own coins back. This is of course pure speculation - I have had nothing but good experiences with the Mint until now. Even most of this problem was handled perfectly - the return process, the e-mail communication, the refund and re-ship, etc. I don't think the reverse proof that I received should have ever left the mint. Maybe a non-collector would have been satisfied, but this was not a bullion coin and as such should have had no easily discernable flaws. I think most other here would agree. I don't *expect* an MS70 coin, but I expect that the vast majority should be MS69. My previous reverse proof was no way near MS69.
I've heard people complain for months about the poor quality control with this set, so you're not alone. Plus, it sickly amuses me that people pay the mint over $150, and the mint can't seem to spend a little extra time looking over these coins. Nothing against the people as awkward as this sounds, all against the quality control officials.
i agree with you guys more control on the mints part is needed if you pay premiums you should get premiums.
