1992 - Seems to have produced a lot of die deterioration doubling due to over-used dies.

Tired of not having any pictures so I brought out my roll set. Here's a roll and an example of the average quality. I built all the rolls in the set myself, painstakingly, one gem find at a time. Everytime I find a better coin, I upgrade a roll. However, it's to the point where I rarely find any upgrades....in fact, it's been a couple of years now.

Today's offerings are a NGC MS69RD 1992 obv and rev and a NGC MS68RD 1992D obv and rev. The 92 NGC has only graded 6 in MS69RD.

 

Here's part of the roll set and my 1982 SDC roll. Next to the 1970-S SD, this was the most difficult roll to obtain. I have a couple EOR toners, here's one pic tossed in. The rolls with dots I have given up trying to find any upgrades for. The rolls that say GEM....I have REALLY given up.

BadThad; That is too bad about the lack of interest when you post your Cents. I myself love Cents and can't ever get enough of them, so keep posting them here and whenever you can!

Hey BadThad. Look at the forehead on the 92 and 92D. Notice the line that runs vertical through the forehead that looks like a vein. It is not there on the 91 or 93 examples. Seems to show up only on the 92s

 

LOL! Most people aren't interested in the memorial cents. I'm always met with "they made billions". My response is: "yea, but 99% of those billions are junk". That includes the coins found in mint cents, rolls and most slabs. Cladking is one of the few that really understands modern coinage. Him and I are always on the same page!

 

Very good observation! It's an odd anomoly and I don't know why it's there. In 1990 the mint produced new master hubs (both obverse and reverse) and the vein was not present then. My only theory is that it's an area where the die tends to crack so it might have something to do with that.

 

BadThad, I may be wrong, but I have a feeling you have some cool varieties you are keeping back.

If by chance you do have any DDO, DDR, RPM, or OMM's, I'd love to see them.

 

Actually, I'm not a big error/variety collector, I just have a few and mostly non-photographed....so don't get too excited. LOL

 

Ok, ok, I was just hoping. Anyway, always appreciate seeing the coins you post because you search for perfection in the rough and raw and seem to find gems.

 

The thrill is in the hunt! I own a few slabbed coins, but I prefer raw.....in a way slabbed coins are cheating.

 

Say it ain't so BadThad. Cheating LOL OK, I am a big cheater. I do have lots of raw coins but I love my slab ones. Especially in the high grades with low pop reports. I just do not have the eye anymore to pick through rolls and rolls of raw coins.

 

My heart is starting race in anticipation. However, there are times I like my steak served up by others.

 

Me too... I love the hunt and the finds that come along with it. That said, I'm with gijoe abit now also,, my eyes ain't what they use to be.. Dimes I don't even bother to see if they are silver or not any more, cent's are challanging to see and I have to really set up the light right to move through a box. Use to do a box a week, now it's a box every quarter or so... and I'm thinking of giving it up alltogether or moving on to half dollars.
