I'm seeing multiple listings on EBay for rolls of wheat cents, with Mercury and/or Roosevelt dimes on the ends. When did silver dimes become a variety of Lincoln cent?
I have to agree. I've been searching cent rolls from the bank for wheats since the early 70's and have never found a dime in a cent roll out of thousands of rolls searched. It's just a gimmick used to hype their bogus home made rolls.
I ask myself who's the stupid one, the buyer who believes they are unsearched and bids them up or the seller who would honestly sell an unsearched roll with a 1916 dime on one end an a civil war token on the other. How would they even know its a wheat cent roll if you cant see any wheat cents?
Those "unsearched" wheat rolls are ok if your looking for 99% commons and they do tend to be sweetened with some semi-keys but no you are not going to find an 1909 s vdb in one. I buy a couple of these each month but I tend to go with sellers that admit they are bulk commons that have had some good dates mixed in and rerolled. On the rolls with silver dimes, tokens, FEs etc.... on the ends, don't bid more then you would willingly pay for the end coin itself. I use 2 ebay dealers for my wheat rolls at moment and since i have had good luck with both i will gladly pm you their names if you would like (i will not post them here as would be advertising) Just remember that you are not going to find the big key dates (not likely anyway) but i have found enough semi-key and occasional IHs mixed in that i wouldn't feel bad sending someone to them. BTW one of these 2 dealers is where i got my nifty 66 sms kennedy half DDO as part of an estate lot so I can say for a fact he does not pull all the goodies out of these lots (not saying they don't cherry pick however lol)
