Ok, I'm going to show that I'm a newbie. What does it mean when someone says the coin has been 'whizzed'?
Whizzing is done using a drill with a soft cloth or fine metal wheel. The coin is then lightly scuffed to hide circulation lines. Often giving the coin a proof-like appearence. Takes lots of practice, and can be misleading to many new hobbyists.
But frequently leaving fine circular scratches, commonly visible without magnification and virtually always visible under 5X.
Ahhh..then there are the mystical "metal movers." From what I hear, these guys use a laser to slightly move the surface of proof gold to enhance it. wild huh?
That is crazy! I purchased a while back what looked to be a unc peace dollar, upon getting it it looked like it had been Whizzed
