Okay, is it worth an additional $30 or so for slabbing, + the variety identification. How much did you pay? calculate the %'age of cost.
I think you got a good price. I think the price was good enough that you saved enough money to pay for grading. However, if a TPG does not grade it for some reason and only certifies it genuine (assuming it is not fake), then I think you would have a coin worth half of what you paid.
If you submit it and it does not get a grade for some reason, say environmental damage or improper cleaning, then it loses much of its value, even errors and varieties. I just purchased a PCGS, ungraded but authenticated as genuine, 1944D RPM cent that is near brilliant for $6.50.
does my coin look like it was environmental damage not trying to be rude i want the honest opinion on my coin ?
No, it does not look that way at all. I was, and am not trying to be rude or insulting myself, but just trying to flesh out the possibilities. In my opinion, you got a very good deal on the coin, especially considering the Blue Book price for your coin in EF40 is 170. Therefore, I say you are way ahead of the game and should seriously submit the coin for a TPG grade and possible error/variety determination. In my opinion, despite what my earlier post might infer, I say submit it.
