I found this penny in my wallet today and was wondering if it was a large or small date penny. I cannot tell the difference between the two, no matter how many times I look at it. Help would be appreciated!

Welcome to the forum. You're gonna need to post a close up pic of the date in order to make a determination.

My off the cuff answer based on the present pic is large date. The small date "9" has a tighter loop.

I was able to get a larger pic and I would agree, it is large date. The 9 loops around and points to the 7 on the small date, on the large it points to the mint mark. The large date curls a tad at the very end but the small date is swirled.

    Large date.

The top of the 7 sets below the top of the 9, and the hook on the 9 points back to the mint mark and not the 7.

    Here's a good LMC resource: http://www.lincolncentresource.com/smalldates/1970Ssmalldate.html
