Hello, my name is Rishi and I'm new to this forum. This is my first post -- I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know what I'm working on. I'm a 30 year old software engineer working with a small team of other engineers & designers. We're all avid collectors. I've always been obsessed with two things -- collecting coins and building well-designed software. I'm currently the happiest I've ever been because I'm finally marrying the two. Our team is working on an app for coin collectors to showcase their collections. I want to make clear that I'm not selling anything. I won't be posting any links to this project or promoting it in any way. That said, I am interested in learning about how other collectors feel about the idea of showcasing your collection. I've always had an interest in showing what's in my collection to friends & family but I'm curious if other collectors feel the same way. Do you think it would be cool to showcase your collections via the web, tablets or smartphones? We're really making this our main focus. I use the NGC Collection Manager system, and their ability to create Custom Sets. I'm not sure what I would need beyond that. Link here to one of my sets.

Rishi, I'm not much into coins, I have a small collection of medals at http://www.go-fast.org/exonumia/ and my banknotes which are my main focus. I think lots of folks like presenting a digital version of their collection, but one of the tricky parts is in the management of the information. Folks save info in spreadsheets, photos, etc, and would like an "automatic" page generated with all the info, write-ups, etc. There's a leap there, either doing it manually, or somehow extracting stuff from that spreadsheet, combining it with known catalog info, and turning it into a web page. The latter is of course a huge value add for someone, whereas the former is a bit like giving them an editor and sending them on their way. My banknote collection, as an example, is completely stored as XML data, which of course is something a "digital collection web site creator" can parse and create a page from. But I suspect I am one of less than 2 folks on the planet who store their collection as XML. I'll be curious to follow what you're doing. Dave

if you have alot of coins the effort involved to do it right is to great.i amsure that many of you have large collections,but see things different then i do.
Hello and welcome to CT. After many years of photographing my coins, a friend of mine who is a web designer volunteered his time to build me a web page all of my own to showcase my collection. It is still in the building process, but here is the link. http://www.southhillscoins.com/ It would be great to have an app or other web application that would allow me to create and showcase my coins myself without having to rely on others to do it.
Sounds good but just in looking at a few peoples profiles around here, I believe this is already a well beaten path. Username Leadfoot has a good example.
