Bow howdy.. lol. Love it. The nickel is questionable imo, but beautiful also imo. stunning really, like something from the Hubble telescope.. that said, I've seen crazier proof toner nickels in plastic. The half, I've seen many with this toning and didn't give it a second thought when I purchased it. I have a 64 to 70 set like this and am on the lookout for raw upgrades for the set when I come across them,, buy one, sell one,,, collect, upgrade, collect ; ) Americana presidential sets and other 2nd level market packing did wonders for these proofs w.r.t toning them. In either case, I'm not worried about how they got to where they are... the are pretty imo. Maybe I'll stick with posting only plastic toners in the future ; )
; ) thought ya'll would get a giggle out of that............ dunno how it got that way... but looks like it lived at the bottom of an ash tray for a year or two.
nope,, I don't think so. purchased at an estate sale along with a couple others that were wrapped in a somewhat oily rage and and sitting in a tin can in the garage workshop along with some used nuts and bolts... Was a nice find and got them at a huge discount to silver value. Pretty sure the toning is natually imparted by a dirty oily nasty rag and probably the worst storage environment you could imagin. That said, who knows.. maybe the guy cooked everything he put into the tin can in his garage.
btw.. here's another that came from the same tin can (i think)... also thinking there was a third one that was really kinda nice, and I sold to someone on this forum.
obviously,, I agree. Any peace dollar with any notable toning has a poor chance finding it's way into a slab. Pretty much just a nice silver bullion coin with attractive tone a neat story behind how it could have toned and how/where I got it.
ha... if I did that one of the 3 human trash compactors running around here would have likely eaten it.
So...you guys like toners? Check out these Jeffersons! Photos graciously taken by gbroke! These come from a nice Capital set I got at a recent show. These three are my favs Also make sure to check out www.coinnection.com/ A great way to keep track of your hoard!
