I went to the Pasadena flea market today hoping to find a deal or two and ended up getting a 1905 nickel in alright condition for $1 and a 1945 walking liberty half that was kind of dirty but showed good detail for $15. I was kind of suprised to see the variety in prices of some of the dealers. While one dealer had "junk" morgans for $30 another had a similar pile for $40. What kind of experience has everyone else had when attending large flea markets? I'd love to hear your stories.
I only frequent one flea market, and that is in Burlington Iowa. $30 is not too shabby for a Morgan dollar. $40 is kinda high. Good deals CAN be had at flea markets, but it takes effort. I've gotten XF Indian head cents for 50 cents each, foreign coins for 50c that I flipped for $5+. My best find was a 1794 Franklin Press Token that I bought for $6 and I sold it for over $120. I also bought a $50 sterling spoon in a dealers lot of "plated silverware" I guess he didn't take the time to test it, it had older markings.
Haven't had much luck in this area. Been to about 3 or 4 different ones and all are way overpriced on everything.
Hi FallGuy, I agree most of the dealers I saw today seemed overpriced even to a new collector like myself. Where do you go to find decent prices on nice coins?
I hawk ebay late at night and have been pretty successful. Couple of my better pick ups have been from this store that sells all types of memorabilia and superhero stuff. They have a small coin section in the back corner and I was able to work out some decent deals there. Unfortunately I moved about 2 hours North of them. This saturday I am going to a local coin show at the town community center. I have no idea what to expect so we'll see.
Ive spent quite a few hours lately on ebay looking for coins I like but with my meager budget and shipping fees deals seem hard to come by. Ive read some stories on here about people finding some decent prices at pawn shops. Have you had any experiences there?
