Seems the mints quality control for the 2012 San Francisco 75th anniversary set Has been less than desirable. My friend just received his set with a big fingerprint on His reverse proof. For what they charge all coins should be 70s
In reply to - "For what they charge all coins should be 70s" I guess that's why I was thinking these coins should have extra value if they have any major blemishes. If you go to the Mints website they act like the "collector" minted coins are babied all the way from the planchets to the shipping room. Only 250,000 +/- minted and I got two that looked like this. The other one I traded to an error collector for a 1/10 ounce gold coin.
I found it hard to believe, but I took this coin out of it's capsule to inspect it's edges. What looked to be a gouge to the naked eye, my microscope and a lens, is actually a piece of the reeding that's still attached. It looks like the coin came out of it's collar sideways...the reeding next to this piece are pushed up towards the obverse as well.
Very nice pics! I wish everyone coming here asking questions about coins could post pics of a similiar quality.
