    Taribor Don't know what I don't Know

    Hi guys,

I made a bulk purchase yesterday and wound up with a bunch of Israeli Proof Lirots, Urguguay silver peso, US junk coinage, 1/2 kilo silver, etc. Google has been my fried in identifying all, except the one pictured below. All the other coins in this collection have some type of silver content but this one looks different, and doesn't have one marking that I can understand. Not sure if it is a worthless token, or (hopefully :)) something with some kind of spot value. Any help is appreciated!

    Hello
This is an Ottoman coin minted in Constantinople
It worths at least it's silver content. It looks like a 20 Kurush coin. It is not a token but a real coin that has circulated by the end of the XIXth century.
On the obverse there is the toughra of the sultan ( the complex shape with the flower at left, signature from Murad V AH 1293 AD 1876 ), and on the reverse the mention that this coin has been minted in Constantinople
I can hardly read the date on the bottom right

Thanks Froggy! I think I made the date out to read the 1839 (1) (backward 7) (0) (0) which seems to be eastern arabic for a muslim date that equates to 1839. I have zero clue if that is accurate or not but I think I reading the (faded but readable) date marking correct. From a quick search, it looks like 24.05g / .848 silver ... but not sure of ASW.

I think you are right: the date should be AH 1255 so AD 1839 and the coin a 20 piastres coin from the Sultan Abdulmejid !
